TEST DESCRIPTION

The RS&A Crime Scene Processing - Shooting Incident Documentation Proficiency Test is designed to assess participants' proficiency in documenting shooting incidents at crime scenes. Here's a description of the test:

Test Components: The proficiency test includes at least one item of evidence containing both a trajectory entry and a trajectory exit. These items of evidence simulate scenarios commonly encountered in shooting incidents investigated by forensic professionals.

Documentation Requirements: Participants are required to submit three key results for each trajectory entry:

a. Entry Side: Participants must accurately identify and document the entry side of the trajectory, providing clear and concise information about the point of entry on the item of evidence.

b. Horizontal Azimuth: Participants measure and record the horizontal azimuth, which indicates the angle of the trajectory in relation to the horizontal plane. This measurement is crucial for determining the direction of the projectile's path.

c. Vertical Angle: Participants measure and record the vertical angle, indicating the angle of the trajectory in relation to the vertical plane. This measurement helps determine the trajectory's elevation and trajectory angle.

Horizontal and Vertical Direction of Measure: Along with horizontal azimuth and vertical angle measurements, participants are required to include the horizontal and vertical directions of measure. This ensures that the trajectory documentation accurately represents the spatial orientation of the trajectory path.

The RS&A Crime Scene Processing - Shooting Incident Documentation Proficiency Test provides participants with practical scenarios to demonstrate their proficiency in documenting shooting incidents accurately and effectively. By meeting the documentation requirements for trajectory entries, participants contribute to the thorough investigation and analysis of shooting incidents, supporting the integrity and reliability of forensic evidence analysis.r assessment.

RS&A is dedicated to continuous improvement and the provision of high-quality forensic products and services, with particular emphasis on proficiency testing. We recognize the critical importance of properly utilizing published Proficiency Testing Results, as they can either support or undermine the credibility of impression evidence sciences. Often, these results are utilized by various stakeholders, including defense attorneys, to challenge forensic identification specialists.

A longstanding challenge in this domain has been the absence of essential contextual data accompanying raw proficiency test results. Without insights into participants' credentials, experience, and agency processes, published results lack meaningful interpretation. To address this, participants are required to complete a brief online demographics survey before submitting their test results. The information gathered, combined with data from other participants, will empower RS&A to furnish the forensic identification industry with comprehensive insights long overdue.

By ensuring that published data is not only accurate but also contextually rich, we strive to enhance the integrity and relevance of proficiency testing outcomes for all stakeholders.
